“Not yo momma’s picnic table”
This exterior trestle table and bench set is made of the highest quality quarter sawn (hence the vertical grain) African mahogany.
It measures 42”w x 96”l x 30”h, comfortably seating 8-10 with additional seating, which this client already had. The trestle design ensures that seating can be located anywhere around the table perimeter without obstruction. The visible and “active” walnut wedges serve two purposes; they keep the vertical legs tight to the 6” inner shoulder of the horizontal trestle to guarantee side to side rigidity, and can be removed to dismantle the table for moving or storage.
Tightbond 3 waterproof glue was used throughout, as well as rust proof screws, where appropriate.
The set is finished with Benjamin Moore water based, clear “Waterproofer” which is rich in silicon and UV protection and will be reapplied annually.
Since mahogany has been a favorite among ship builders for centuries, I expect this set to outlive us all.
