This 48 x 90 x 2 3/8″ entry door replaced the original one which was perfectly good other than allowing almost no light through the small 20 x 20 window of faux antique glass into an already dark entry.

The solution, as I saw it was to substantially increase the amount of glass in the door and replace the dark wood on the interior with a new white wall.  It worked!

The door perimeter components consist of an engineered “Glulam” core for long term stability in extreme weather conditions.  The raw core is then edged and faced with solid, American black walnut using waterproof glue throughout.  The live edge walnut slab in the (vertical) center is grooved on each edge to accommodate the 2, 3/4″, tempered thermal pane glass units.  All of the wood surfaces are hand planed and lightly sanded for a rustic elegant look.  The finish consists of a “natural” oil stain, a medium brown enhancing glaze, and multiple coats of “Helmsman”, water based, exterior Spar Urethane.

The bronze custom pine cone door knocker is by Michael Healy and the 4 new hinges are 5 x 5 complete with 2 ball bearings each.
